The Secret Of Professional Web DesignThe secret of professional web design isn't to make a flashy page of awesomeness. The best web design is a design that does what you or your customer wants. Now, if the purpose of your site is an ultra cool web design that shows off flashy animations and awesome graphics then by all means go for it. However, for most websites it's a different story. Most sites should be build with simple designs that has a clear objective. That objective is usually to sell a product, share information or something else. Your design should always focus on that goal. More often than not you will find that less is more. Layout is a key element to good web design. The basics of layout are actually pretty easy to learn. We are talking about principles such as proximity, contrast and alignment. Principles that if applied correctly can make even the most shoddy design look pretty decent. My point is that if you're serious about web design you need to look into layout, it's an integral part of professional web design. Another element of web design that you're probably dying to get into is graphics. Don't get me wrong, graphics are important. However, graphics should not dominate the page. Instead it is important to use graphical elements to further the objective of your website. If you're new to graphics there are plenty of tutorials on how to get started. If you're not too keen on spending a lot of cash on photoshop there's a free alternative that's pretty good. It's called the GIMP and it's a free image manipulation program. Professional web design is an integral part of web development, but you don't need to have years of experience to make cool web designs. What you do need is to get stuck in there and try some different things. Do your research and you're off to a good start. Remember to keep it simple. That's what the pro's do and there's no reason that you shouldn't be professional about it. |
